Some details on the recorded pieces:

Preciosus v. Athleta domini is sung on October 9 for the feast of Saint Denis. The text evokes the glory of the holy martyr: « Pretiosus domini Dionysius in agone novissimo oravit dicens nunc jam dominates per coronam martyrii cum fratris meis served tuis suscipe me », i.e. « Denis, the jewel of God, prayed during his agony: By the crown of martyrdom, welcome me to your Paradise ». Rue des Chantres interpret a organum triplum which is located in Ms Pluteus 29.1 of Florence (c. 1250) and a repons from the Latin Ms 15181 to the BNF (early 14th century).

The Pluteus 29.1 manuscript is preserved at the Laurentian Library in Florence but is the most important source of compositions of the Ecole de Notre-Dame in Paris in the 13th century.

Flos filius is originally part of the famous repons Stirps Jesse of Fulbert de Chartres (died 1028) on the incarnation of Christ through the Virgin: « Virgo Dei Genitrix, and flos filius eius » meaning « The Virgin is the branch of God and the flower is her son ». Its popularity was such that this passage, transformed into content, caused the subsequent composition of motets, including the 3-vote motet registered by Rue des Chantres : Stirps Jesse progreditor / Virga cultus nescia / Flos filius (Florence, Ms. Pluteus 29.1, c. 1250). Thus, on the content « Flos filius », you hear the duplum « Virga cultus nescia » and triplum « Stirps Jesse progreditor » in an amazing superposition effect.

Antienne Salvator omnium was sung on January 19 to commemorate the death of King Dagobert (c. 600-638). Antienne O beate Dyonisi is sung on October 9 for the feast of Saint Denis. Sent to Gaul by the Pope, he shines there with his miracles. He was tortured by the Romans. Decapitated, he carried his head to the current location of the Basilica of Saint-Denis.

One Antibiotics is a short song in prose in association with a psalmized psalm. Salvator omnium before reading the Gospel. As regards O beate Dyonisi, in the Sandionysian liturgy, it follows Gaude prole and before reading the Gospel: « O Blessed Denis, intercede for us with God ». These two antennas are taken from the antiphonary of the abbey of Saint-Denis, Paris, BNF, Ms. Latin 17296, dated 1140-1150.
