The Ensemble Rue des Chantres

In 2019, Erwan Picquet, Vincent Pislar and Christian Ploix founded the set with variable geometry Rue des Chantres, by the name of a street of the Ile de la Cité located at a brilliance of voices of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Having been singing at Notre-Dame themselves, they aim to make hear the songs that during history resonated in the cathedral, especially the so-called polyphonies of the School of Notre-Dame which swarmed in the great Gothic cathedrals of 13th-century Europe.
In drawing up their programmes, they go back to the sources and plunge into reading the musical manuscripts of the Middle Ages patiently copied by the monks. Their concerts include improvisations whose medieval listeners were fond of. A slideshow presenting translations, iconography and manuscripts related to the sung pieces can be projected during the show.
